Keiki Kokua Day was held on April 22, 2010, Earth Day as a reward and recognition event celebrating students efforts to care for our islands. Over 600 students who completed Kokua Earth Action Projects this school year were invited to this year’s Keiki Kokua Day which included performances with Ziggy Marley and Jack Johnson, presentations of certificates of achievement to each student group, and hands-on learning activities with environmental non-profits and Keiki Kokua partners.

Kamaka Hawaii, started in 1916, makes serious handmade instruments — prices begin at $650 — from the prized Hawaiian koa wood.

What: A tour of the oldest ukulele factory in Hawaii.

Where: 550 South St., Honolulu, Hawaii, 808-531-3165; www.kamakahawaii.com).

How much: Nada.

Kamaka Hawaii’s world headquarters is the sort of building you pass without a second thought: a two-story, cinder-block structure on a busy Honolulu street near Waikiki. But inside, wooden wonders and sweet sounds await.
