A bill aimed at offsetting the cost of multiple requests for copies of President Obama’s birth certificate appears to have limited support.

The proposed measure, which would have charged $100 for copies of President Obama’s birth certificate, will not receive a hearing. The bill failed to receive a hearing before a deadline for bills to advance to their final committees.

The bill ran into opposition after national media attention seemed to question the purpose of the bill. State lawmakers also conceded that the bill would likely result in legal battles as current state law bars the release of private information.

A bill traveling through the House is looking to bring gambling to the 50th state, or at least to it’s waters.

Bloomberg reports …

Gambling would be allowed on large ships traveling between Hawaii’s islands under a measure approved by its first committee.

The House Economic Revitalization and Business Committee voted 10-1 on Thursday to keep the bill alive, but it still faces two more House committees, a potential full House vote and Senate consideration before it could reach the governor’s desk.

One of these is a toy water pistol and the other is a real Beretta Model 950BS .25 ACP handgun. Can you tell them apart?

The Honolulu Civic Beat reports …

Hawaii lawmakers aren’t fooling around when it comes to guns — even toy ones. State Rep. Scott Saiki has introduced a bill that would ban retailers from selling toy guns to minors.

If passed, it would become a crime to sell a toy gun to anybody under 18. Parents could still purchase them for their children.
